TikTok just announced that it will ban certain facial filters for anyone under the age of 18. The facial filters that will be banned are the ones that alter ones facial appearance in the form of fuller lips and larger eyes. Filters that are funny like bunny ears will still be allowed. TikTok says they will roll out these changes in the coming weeks.

TikTok says the reason for this ban is that many kids who use the unrealistic facial filters reported feelings of depression and anxiety, especially when it came to their appearance. Some say this is just a ploy for TikTok to avoid a ban in the U.S. Australia has already implemented a ban of all social media to anyone under 16.

Things are still looking gloomy over TikTok’s fate, here in the U.S. No one knows if TikTok will be banned completely since the law that was passed back in April, which saw that the owners had to sell the company to a non Chinese entity to be allowed in the U.S. Trump himself has taken a complete 180 turn and has said he wants TikTok around.
