We all know that before Donald Trump ran for office, he was known for allot of other things besides running for president. From developing property, owning companies, starring in hit TV shows, cameos in movies and television, Donald was everywhere in the pop culture dating back to the 1970s. Well, we can also add music aswell.
In the 1980s, when rap music was blowing up, many rap musicians liked to use public figures in their song lyrics. It was a way to show their drive and the hustle that they had to make it big. During this time, one of the biggest name in pop culture was and still is Donald Trump. So it was only natural to be referenced in many many rap songs. And when we say many, we mean a ton. All the way from the 1908s even till the 2020s.
Well apparently Kalama and her staff didn’t realize this because when they were trying to get musical guests for one of their rallies, they first asked a popular rapper from Atlanta to perform then quickly denied his appearance. The reason was that one of his top, and probably only top song, referenced Donald Trump. The rappers name was Yung Joc, and his 2005-2006 hit song was called “Its going down”.
In the song, the lyric that Kamala’s team referenced to was “boys in the hood call me black Donald Trump”. The rapper quickly told the campaign that he can edit that lyric out but they quickly took back their invitation to perform. He was telling his side on a radio podcast called “All The Way Up with Angela Yee”.
