Now that the election is finally over, and Trump has finally won, does this mean the normal legacy main stream media, that we usually watch and sometimes love, no longer has an influence over the American people. When we say the term “mainstream media”, were not just talking about news networks. This includes tv shows, talk shows, news programs and beyond. I say this to emphasize how biased the media was towards Trump.
From CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, radio stations, celebrities, Hollywood in general, and the list goes on, all had negative views towards Trump. Late night talk shows were attacking him left and right calling him names such as Hitler, racist and a fascist. There was even a cartoon made about him during his first term that portrayed him as mentally childlike. The propaganda was almost limitless.
Apparently this doesn’t work anymore. With social media in a blaze, normal TV watching is no more. No one has time to sit in front of a tube and watch a news channel with commercials when they can just go on their TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds and actually interact with people and get exposed to news that the mainstream media wont show. Honestly, if there was no social media during this election, Trump probably would of lost.
Just for context, social media in general is a trillion dollar industry. And with social commerce, which is selling products directly through social media platforms, this industry is expected to grow to 8.1 trillion by 2030 according to Forbes. With that being said, normal people are creating videos, podcasts, vlogs, cartoons using Adobe Photoshop, all which have taken away time from normal television watching that we used to pay for to our portable devices. Who wants to watch regular TV shows that you have to pay cable for when you can just watch clips for free on YouTube straight from the network!
