Thanks to fact-checkers online, the man they freed, who they thought was just a random person who was hiding from the civil unrest in the country, was al-Assad’s personal regime torturer. When they found him, he looked well-groomed and gave a fake name. Fact-checkers online found his true identity, Abu Hamza. He was responsible for the killings of many civilians during the 2014 civil war.
